AMBER’S NIGHTMARE 7 Little Johnstons’ Amber Johnston reveals ‘fears’ over daughter Elizabeth giving birth with ‘risk of complications’
Elizabeth welcomed her first child, a daughter, Leighton, on November 3
7 LITTLE Johnstons’ Amber Johnston has opened up about her concerns about her daughter Elizabeth giving birth.
The 23-year-old – like her parents and siblings – has achondroplasia, making giving birth more risky than the average woman.
In an interview with People, Amber, 45, revealed she and her husband Trent, 47, had reservations about their daughter having a baby due to potential complications.
“So for Elizabeth, she has to have a c-section under general anesthesia, so therefore she’s put to sleep completely, which is really, really challenging when it comes to getting a baby out fast,” Amber said of the complex procedure.
“Our pelvis is too narrow and in a sense kind of fused.”
The Johnston matriarch explained that if the mother and baby experienced complications before being put under, the anesthesia could’ve created “a whole host of complications for Elizabeth and the baby.”
“That’s just not a perfect world,” the reality star added.
THE DELIVERY
Elizabeth welcomed a baby girl, Leighton, with her boyfriend, Brice Bolden, on November 3, and according to her mother, the TLC star wasn’t worried in the slightest about the delivery.
“Elizabeth is very much like her father [where] everything’s going to be fine,” Amber joked. “And it was like, ‘Oh no, mom. My partner’s average size, so we will be okay genetically. The baby will either be little or big. It doesn’t matter. We’re fine. It’s great.’
“And I’m like, ‘Okay, Elizabeth. You’re right. However, that’s not the only problem that can happen.'”
Trent also revealed another fear they had about their daughter being hospitalized as they wouldn’t be the ones walking her into the operating room for her c-section.
“This was the very first time Amber [hadn’t] gone back with one of our kids,” the father of five explained.
“[With] all the surgeries our kids have had, Amber and I … have always been the one to walk them back to the OR room and to kiss and say bye, and ‘We’ll be right outside when you come into recovery.'”
Elizabeth, instead, was accompanied by her baby daddy Brice.
“Brice was there this time. You know, Elizabeth and Brice, this was their child and they needed to be together for this, but still, as parents, that’s our daughter going back and going on with surgery and it’s not us walking her back there. So that was tough,” the TV star admitted.
LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER
Despite sitting on the sidelines, Trent made up for it by being a doting grandfather and helping the couple care for the little one.
Last month, the patriarch shared side-by-side photos on Instagram – one holding Elizabeth when she was a baby and the other holding Leighton.
Fans were shocked by Elizabeth’s strong resemblance to her daughter, with one commenting: “Elizabeth and Leighton are duplicate copies of each other!”
Another echoed: “Baby Leighton is her mama all over again.”
A third remarked, “Wow, it’s like a double take,” and a fourth said they looked like “twins.”
